Frequently Asked Questions on WOF - FAQs
1. What is a Warrant of Fitness (WoF)?
A WOF is a regular safety inspection that checks your vehicle meets New Zealand’s road safety standards. It covers essentials like brakes, tyres, lights, windscreen, seatbelts, steering, and more
2. How often does my vehicle need a WOF?
- If your vehicle was first registered on or after January 1, 2000, you are required to have a WOF every 12 months.
- If your vehicle was first registered before January 1, 2000, you are required to have a WOF every six months.
- New vehicles get a WOF valid for three years from first registration
3. What happens if my car fails the WOF inspection?
If your vehicle doesn’t pass, you’ll get a report outlining what needs fixing. Once repairs are completed, you can return for a re-inspection. At Kiwis Autos, we can handle repairs on-site.
4. Can I drive my car if the WOF has expired?
No, it’s illegal to drive without a current WOF label, except when taking your vehicle directly to get it inspected or repaired (and only if it’s safe to do so). Driving without a valid WOF can result in fines.
5. How long does a WOF inspection take?
Most WOF inspections take about 30–45 minutes. If repairs are needed, extra time may be required.
6. What does the WOF inspection cover?
The inspection checks tyre condition and tread depth, brakes, lights, structural integrity (no rust in key areas), windscreen and windows, wipers, seatbelts, steering, suspension, and exhaust.
7. Can I book my WOF online?
