WOF Inspections in Penrose, Auckland | Kiwis Autos

Fast, Thorough Warrant of Fitness Checks

- Done Right the First Time
A current Warrant of Fitness is a legal requirement for driving on New Zealand roads. At Kiwis Autos, our fully qualified technicians carry out fast, thorough WOF inspections so you can drive with confidence, knowing your vehicle is safe and road-legal.

Most WOF checks are done the same day — and if your vehicle needs minor repairs to pass, we can often fix them on the spot and re-inspect straight away, so you’re back on the road without a second trip.

How Often Do I Need a WOF?

It depends on when your vehicle was first registered:

  • Vehicles first registered before 1 January 2000 — every 6 months
  • Vehicles first registered on or after 1 January 2000 — every 12 months (until the vehicle is 6 years old, then every 6 months in practice for older cars)

Not sure when yours is due? Bring it in or give us a call — we’ll check for you. You can also confirm your due date on the NZTA (Waka Kotahi) website ↗.

What Gets Checked in a WOF?

Our qualified inspectors work through the full NZTA checklist, including:

  • Tyre condition and tread depth
  • Brake operation
  • Structural condition (rust is not permitted in certain areas)
  • Lights (headlights, indicators, brake lights)
  • Glazing and windscreen safety
  • Windscreen wipers and washers
  • Airbags
  • Working speedometer
  • Safe opening and closing of doors and windows
  • Seatbelts — no damage, and buckles must work properly
  • Steering and suspension — safe and secure
  • Exhaust — no leaks, excess smoke or excess noise
  • Fuel system — no leaks

A WOF checks that your vehicle is safe to drive. It does not cover mechanical items like the engine, clutch, gearbox or oil and fluid levels — which is why we recommend pairing your WOF with a service

Save Time - Combine Your WOF and Service

Because a WOF doesn’t cover everything under the bonnet, the smartest move is to book your WOF and a vehicle service together. You save a trip, catch small issues before they become expensive ones, and keep your car running its best. Ask us about combined WOF-and-service pricing.

  • Fully qualified, experienced technicians
  • Same-day inspections wherever possible
  • Onsite repairs and re-inspection — one visit, not two
  • Honest advice and upfront pricing, always
  • All makes and models — Japanese, European, Korean, EV and hybrid

Electric and hybrid vehicles need a WOF just like any other car. Our technicians are experienced with EVs and hybrids, so you can book yours with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s illegal to drive on New Zealand roads without a valid Warrant of Fitness displayed. The only exception is driving your vehicle (when it’s safe to do so) directly to or from a place of repair, or to a booked WOF inspection.

Most inspections take around 45–60 minutes.

Ask us about combined WOF-and-service deals.

Booking recommended / walk-ins welcome

Just your vehicle. Make sure it’s reasonably clean and clear so our technicians can access everything they need to check.

Yes. If your WOF has lapsed, drive straight to us (only if the vehicle is safe to drive) and we’ll sort it.

No stress. If we find something that would fail the inspection, we’ll explain it clearly and give you a quote before doing any work — no surprises. In many cases we can complete the repair onsite and re-inspect on the spot, then issue your Warrant of Fitness the same day.
